CMI Marine won an International Environmental Award

CMI Marine is the winner of the 2010 Kalmar International Environmental Award. CMI Marine will be presented with the award during the Hanseatic Days in Pärnu, Estonia on June 24-27.

The award is intended for individuals, enterprises or organizations showing courage, strength and that have new solutions for improving the environment in and around the Baltic Sea.

The award criteria

The award may be presented to individuals, enterprises or organizations that have contributed by:

    •    innovative solutions showing sustainable improvements of the environment in and around the Baltic Sea
    •    improvement of the management and utilization of the common resources of the Baltic Sea resulting in improved environment, e.g. through international cooperation or exchange of knowledge
    •    strategies and practical solutions increasing the public awareness and knowledge on how everyone can contribute to improvements of the environment of the Baltic Sea.

 

Motivation of the Jury

The winner of this year’s award has according to the views of the jury:

    •    made a significant contribution to establishing more favorable pre-conditions, complementing those already in existence, in the handling of oil spills and pollution when accidents occur.

    •    shown strong innovative impetus in developing new products which will serve to complement human endeavour in oil clean-ups.

    •    successfully combined development of products for clean-up with the need for practical daily monitoring of residual products on marine vessels in tanks and holds.

    •    through the products of his company contributed to an increase in the possibility of limiting the ecological consequences for the marine environment when oil spills occur.

    •    successfully combined the development of products with future-oriented education within the merchant marine sector in order to prevent the occurrence of oil spills in the future.
